Zombicide Invader - Lt. Jee-hye

I went back to acrylic paints for this model to maintain a consistent look with the other white armored characters.  Wow...after going back to acrylics after working in oils for so long, I have to say it was a miserable experience.  Frankly, I couldn't wait until I was finished with this model just so I could get back to oils.  Other than perhaps one more model with white armor (the IRIS sentry), this could be the very last model I paint with acrylics.  I do not claim to ever have achieved 'excellence' with acrylics, I was able to get used to several painting approaches and was sort of able to do glazing from a technical perspective even though my patience wouldn't allow enough layers to achieve awesome-looking results.  Tip drying when trying to do eyes was something I had forgotten how terrible it could be.  The only thing I actually like about the acrylics at this point is the metal colors for little tiny bits like the gold details here.  I haven't found a decent metallic oil counterpart...  Ok, one other thing I like is the fast drying time and the ability to use acrylic-painted models basically the next day on the game table.

I'll likely be selling all of my acrylic paints at some point in the near future.  I seriously can't think of going back to voluntarily using them for anything.  Enough bellyaching on acrylics - I'm just glad there is an alternative!

This model is actually the last of the Kickstarter extras and now all that remains are the six models in the Comic Book Extras v1.  That is until the second round of Comic Book Extras arrive... :)

It looks like Jee-hye is pretty adept at combat in general with Reaper Combat at Blue and skills at Orange and Red to go either the melee route or ranged.  This model also adds another country-flag model (Korea) to the six I thought completed the 'set'.

Zombicide Invader - Gold Coast Gary

Gary has been said to be a homage to Ruby Rhod from 5th Element.  I've seen the movie, but don't remember the character.  Gary is set up to be a luck-based build with Lucky at Blue, Roll 6 +1 Die Combat at Orange, and +1 to Die Roll Combat at Red to build in some skill along with the luck.

Zombicide Invader - Commander Morton

In the second part of the homage duo of Rick & Morty, Evil Morty Smith joins.  I'm not at all familiar with the back story of the homage, but this character is apparently a Born Leader at Blue and has a lot of free combat action potential.  I'm sure someone familiar with the show would enjoy playing the duo.

I tried a couple new oil colors on him and he was pretty quick to paint up.

Zombicide Invader - 'Doctor' Dick

This is a homage to Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty.  I'm not familiar with it, but the images that pop up when searching are pretty clear that the reference is accurate.  BIA Tough at Blue could be pretty powerful.  Not really my style of character to play, but interesting variety nonetheless.

Zombicide Invader - Hugo

Hugo was fun to paint and turned out pretty well I think.  To understand how this big guy has Zero-G Run at Blue, one must look at his homage.  Hugo bears a clear resemblance to Andre the Giant.  It has also been stated on BGG that he is also a homage to Baron Harkonnen from Dune.  His armor must include the anti-gravity technology of the Baron.  Hugo has quite a variety of skills and could be played in a variety of ways.

Zombicide Invader - Emma

Emma's skills are well suited for an android - Tough at Blue eventually followed by Auto-Repair at Red.  A damage-soaking character is not something I generally prefer to play, but at least it is thematic.

Another homage with which I am not familiar, Emma is apparently based off of Ava from Ex Machina.  Given the shorts and top outfit from the photos that came up during a search and generally physical form, the homage seems to make some sense.

Zombicide Invader - Sister Eva Dean

Well, this character was not easy to come by.  I didn't know it existed until by accident I happened to see mention of it on boardgamegeek.com.  Apparently, this model was part of a promo reward for a Kickstarter for the Dice Tower.  Giving away exclusive promos of 'official' Invader characters through other Kickstarters unrelated to Invader - or even any other CMON product seems pretty crappy.  It is especially crappy when it isn't a Kickstarter I ever saw any mention of until literally years after it ended.  It is one thing to have crossover packs for what I consider non-official characters, but Eva was specifically made for Invader and should be more readily available - or at least better advertised - to Kickstarter backers of the core game.  Needless to say, eBay prices are not kind and I wasn't very happy to pay them for the sake of completeness.  Anyway...that is the end of my ranting...on to the regular posting.

Eva has been said to be an homage to Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games.  There are definitely some photos of the Katniss braid and the character is female so I guess it could be a reasonable assumption.  The character also has some powerful ranged skills that also line up with the archer archetype.

Oddly, I somehow forgot to take any workbench photos...  From memory, I know I used Perylene Black as the primary glaze for any green areas along with Asphaultum for the gold/brown/flesh areas.  The usual Terra Rosa + Brilliant Yellow Pale was used to finish off the flesh and Indian Yellow for the armor sections.

Zombicide Invader - Cloud

This character has some interesting and fairly rare skills.  Rolling 6 and adding a die, while unpredictable, can be fun to have right off the bat.  A choice between Full Auto and Predator allows Cloud to choose a ranged or melee build.  Lucky at Red would round out the unpredictable nature of this character.

Cloud looks to be an homage to Nebula from Guardians of the Galaxy.  This one I'm actually familiar with.  Other than 'neutering' this character, there are a lot of similarities to the cybernetically enhanced daughter of Thanos.

Zombicide Invader - Stomper Abomination

These big figures are fun to paint with oil paints.  It really shows off their ability to achieve smooth transitions.

The Stomper can really cause issues for characters with all of its stomping around.  I've yet to play in a game with the Stomper so it will be interesting to see how much 'impact' it has by costing characters' actions to stand back up.
