Zombicide Invader - Oleg

Oleg turned out pretty well in my opinion.  The flesh tones blended nicely and the white armor turned out better than the other white armor I've done in acrylic.

Oleg, along with most of the other characters from the Comic Book Extras Volume 1, has some very powerful skills.  Starting off with Full Auto at Blue, he can fire a sniper rifle with a fist full of dice wiping out large groups of tanks very early in the game.  Throw on +1 to Dice Roll at Orange and he is hitting with a 2-damage weapon on 2+ with as many dice as there are xenos in a zone.  He also has the currently unique skill of Concentrated Attack Expert which adds +1 damage to all concentrated fire attacks using 2 or more dice.  Pretty powerful character.

Zombicide Invader - Flingers

The flingers have the unique ability to shoot back at the characters from range.  These should add a nice variety to the xeno hoards.  Similar to the Xenomoths, I picked up a second set of these to bring the total to 16 to avoid exhausting the supply after two card draws which would result in an abomination rush of extra activations.

These were fun and quick to paint (about 2 hours for each group of 8).

Post and Pre-wipe of the pre-glaze

Although it slightly diverges from the game art, I did go back and add some blue tint to the lumps next to the spine.  They just seemed to be missing something so I decided to separate the spine from the greenish body a bit.

Zombicide Invader - Kane

I was initially planning to use acrylics to be consistent with the other white-armored models of Invader.  However, I couldn't bring myself to go back to acrylics so went with oils to see how close I could get it to look.  The models in the Comic Book Extras have a little different style of armor than others so the slight inconsistency is well worth being able work in oils.

Kane is a pretty 'Tough' character at Blue allowing him to take a hit from an abomination and eventually is able to take Super Strength at Red to make him able to take down multiple abominations in one multi-dice attack roll.

I did go back and clean up the white oil on the base after the photos above were taken by the way.

Zombicide Invader - Connor

Connor is unique in that she is the only character with the 'Tactician' skill - which I had to look up as it is the first I've seen it.  It is a Red skill for Connor which allows her to go in any order.  Not overly useful when playing solo, but there have been several instances where it would have been very helpful to go before or after another player when 2 or more players are involved.  Connor is also one of two Invader characters with the Lifesaver skill.  This skill can be very helpful in certain circumstances - usually circumstances with potentially game-ending consequences.  That said, I generally prefer Shove as it can have a similar effect and is useful in a wider variety of situations.  Born Leader at blue is pretty nice and makes this character a great 'team player'.

It was great to get back to oils on this model.  The entire process was a lot more enjoyable and I think it shows even though I've only touched the tip of the iceberg as far as the potential quality that can be achieved with oils.

Zombicide Invader - Mother-In-Law Abomination

To celebrate the completion of the last  Kickstarter Extras character, another Abomination joins the ranks!

Mother-In-Law Abomination was quite fun to paint.  The oil colors worked very well together enabling some low-effort smooth blends.  I intentionally went with a little less intense yellow for the primary carapace as the ultra-bright yellow seemed like it would stick out too much and I really liked the look of the Asphaltum blends that just came naturally as the Hansa Yellow as applied.

I'm not sure how the difficulty will be affected by this abomination.  If the zone is targeted and this abomination isn't eliminated, it gets another activation.  That seems like it could be pretty devastating given some bad rolls.  We shall see!

Zombicide Invader - Lt. Jee-hye

I went back to acrylic paints for this model to maintain a consistent look with the other white armored characters.  Wow...after going back to acrylics after working in oils for so long, I have to say it was a miserable experience.  Frankly, I couldn't wait until I was finished with this model just so I could get back to oils.  Other than perhaps one more model with white armor (the IRIS sentry), this could be the very last model I paint with acrylics.  I do not claim to ever have achieved 'excellence' with acrylics, I was able to get used to several painting approaches and was sort of able to do glazing from a technical perspective even though my patience wouldn't allow enough layers to achieve awesome-looking results.  Tip drying when trying to do eyes was something I had forgotten how terrible it could be.  The only thing I actually like about the acrylics at this point is the metal colors for little tiny bits like the gold details here.  I haven't found a decent metallic oil counterpart...  Ok, one other thing I like is the fast drying time and the ability to use acrylic-painted models basically the next day on the game table.

I'll likely be selling all of my acrylic paints at some point in the near future.  I seriously can't think of going back to voluntarily using them for anything.  Enough bellyaching on acrylics - I'm just glad there is an alternative!

This model is actually the last of the Kickstarter extras and now all that remains are the six models in the Comic Book Extras v1.  That is until the second round of Comic Book Extras arrive... :)

It looks like Jee-hye is pretty adept at combat in general with Reaper Combat at Blue and skills at Orange and Red to go either the melee route or ranged.  This model also adds another country-flag model (Korea) to the six I thought completed the 'set'.

Zombicide Invader - Gold Coast Gary

Gary has been said to be a homage to Ruby Rhod from 5th Element.  I've seen the movie, but don't remember the character.  Gary is set up to be a luck-based build with Lucky at Blue, Roll 6 +1 Die Combat at Orange, and +1 to Die Roll Combat at Red to build in some skill along with the luck.
