The Witcher: Old World - Noon Wraith

This model proved to be a challenge for me to paint due to my bad decision to pre-glaze the dress with Brown Madder.  I fought with the red brought in by the Brown Madder until I finally kind of gave up and called it done.  In the end, I don't think it turned out bad, but I felt unable to make it look like I intended.  The skin was made a little darker to increase the contrast and avoid white on white.

The dress flows nicely around the little addition of the tall grass/reed which was really the only place on the base that allowed for any sort of extra bits.

The Witcher: Old World - Werewolf

The werewolf turned out fairly well, but the resulting skin colors weren't exactly what I had intended.  I tried to follow James Wappel's YouTube video on a fairly similar model (well, it was at least a werewolf with white fur which is what I was going for).  It wasn't clear to me exactly what he used for the pre-glaze on the skin until much later in the video and I mistakenly used Burnt Umber.  The end result looks pretty decent in my opinion, but it was a struggle to fight the brown back with the white.

This is a nicely sculpted model and was fun to paint other than my previously mentioned struggles with shifting the color to more closely match what James did in his video.

The Epic Basing Reeds added a nice touch of color and some additional interest to the base.

The Witcher: Old World - Ekimmara

These nasty beasts called Ekimmara apparently have a taste for horse flesh.  I've wanted to paint up a horse for a while now and I guess this is the warm-up for the Lost Mount figure coming later.

Painting this one took a bit longer than the first due to the extra detail and a few more colors used.  It also took longer because I fiddled with the skin a bit more than I would have liked just to get it looking a little more interesting than it was after my first attempt.

I like the little grassy tuft as the hint of the greenish color adds a nice contrast to the reddish skin hues.  There was a lot going on in the face of this model and I got kind of lost as to how to go about painting it.  It was still a fun model to paint and marks two of the three 1st level beasts complete before allowing myself to play the first game!

The Epic Basing Reeds added a nice touch of color and some additional interest to the base.

The Witcher: Old World - Archespore

The Archespore was a fairly quick model to paint.  It has a little less of a 'dramatic' look to it compared to the other models, but it is a level 1 plant after all.  We will see if that opinion changes after facing it on the game board.

The Witcher: Old World - Nekker

The Witcher: Old World Kickstarter has arrived!  I was very excited to see the boxes holding the wide variety of wild and interesting beasts that populate the world of The Witcher to continue my Adventure in Oils!  My plan is to use standard artists' oils and the relaxing, fast, and easy techniques I've been learning from James Wappel to paint all of these goodies.

First, I plan to paint up three of each level 1, 2, and 3 monsters, a legendary monster, and four of the witcher models before playing the game.  I'm taking the risk that I won't like the game, but I think that risk is low and I guess if all else fails, I'll just sell it along with the painted set of miniatures...  Let's not be silly...it will be great.

Anyway, I'm starting off with this 'cute' little guy called a Nekker.  Nobody seems to know how they got their name and I'm not going to venture a guess...

I'm planning to add to the already very interesting bases some of the bits from Epic Basing.  James often builds his bases from scratch and makes use of the foliage and other items from them and since I'm forced to diverge from my usual 'paint the base black and call it done' approach anyway with these, I figured it would be a good opportunity to further expand my horizons.

This model is fairly simple being basically naked except for a loincloth.  The mushroom I went with on this one added a bit of extra color and interest to the overall model.  I feel like I could have done a little more with painting the base, but I felt like there was enough going on with it and I didn't really know what else to do with it anyway.

I was able to finish painting the model from start to finish within 1.5 hours and I would say that I took my time.  It was certainly 80% done within the first hour, but I continued to fiddle with it for another half hour.  This does not count removing the mold lines, washing, assembly (adding the mushroom), and priming the model.  Overall the mold lines were not too bad on this and other models I've prepped thus far.  Someone put some thought into where to place the mold seams as well as ensure that they weren't too noticeable to begin with.

This was a great model to 'warm up' with and start this little adventure.  Really nice level of detail and was fun to paint.

Zombicide Invader - Driller Blitzers

Driller Blitzers are a hybrid between a Tank and a Hunter.  Strong as a Tank and fast as a Hunter is a fairly dangerous combination.  Combined with a Pit to take cover in, these like fast abominations and very difficult to dispatch from range when in numbers.

Finishing these off means finishing the entirety of the Zombicide Invader Kickstarter plus a few extras - including a second set of Blitzers to give a total of 12.  Just having 6 of them would require removing some of the spawn cards or facing an increase in Abomination rush-related deaths which are no fun at all.  Doubling the number should allow for at least a couple groups of these beasts on the board at once before running out.

I blended some orange around the edges to help set these off a bit from the standard Driller Tanks.  The red ring should be sufficient, but I felt these needed a little extra.

Zombicide Invader: Driller Tanks

Driller Tanks are similar to the standard Tank, but when taking cover in a pit, they turn into little abominations.  Without using some of the special weapons available in Dark Side, these could be a bit of an issue - at least when trying to deal with them at range.

These took about twice as long to paint as a single Driller Worker or Hunter which makes sense since they have at least twice the surface area than either of its smaller cousins.  I'm not extremely happy with how the yellow stripes turned out - mostly because I knew I could have done better if I took a little more time with them.  Truthfully, I have been rushing myself a bit on these as there are a lot of other models from different games that I'd like to paint and don't want to be painting Drillers for the next couple of months.  All in all, I think they turned out fairly well for rank-and-file creatures.
