Dead Trees

Tree, tree never changes...hm...that isn't right.  The Fallout poster girl gives the 'thumbs up' to this big dead tree.  These modular dead trees should work nicely to add as some lively cover for various wargames such as Fallout Wasteland Warfare by Modiphius.  Over the course of two evenings, I threw together these eight trees which I figured should be enough to look nice on a game board without causing too much issue with catching elbows and making it difficult to move figures around.

The 'trees' themselves are clippings of sagebrush.  I acquired a box of several armatures almost 20 years ago and they are still in great condition.  Each tree's 'base' is formed by a large galvanized washer (two different sizes somewhat based on the size of the 'tree').  I added a pile of Sculptamold to each, stuck an armature into the wet mixture, and waited for it to dry.  Once dry, I used some oil paints to give the ground what I think came out as a realistic burnt-earth look.  To help prevent breakage of limbs and secure them into the base, I made a 50/50 water/wood-glue mixture and brushed it over the entire armature and down into the base.  The Sculptamold shrinks slightly so some of them had a little wiggle, but it probably would have held up fine without the glue - I just wanted to make sure.

These will add some nice variety to the already very interesting 3D-printed buildings, walls, ruined vehicles, and junk piles from Modiphius in Fallout as well as a variety of other wargames.
