The Witcher: Old World - Siren

The Siren has a lot of similar colors to the Wyvern palette, which worked out well together and again proved to blend nicely on this model.  Completing this model gets us one step closer to being able to add in the Skellige expansion next time we play which I'm looking forward to.  Just the ships remain to be painted to round out the expansion models.

The Witcher: Old World - Dagon

Dagon was pulled to the top of the queue to start on the models needed for the Skellige expansion.  While I don't think the paint job turned out poorly, it wasn't exactly what I envisioned.  Some new color combinations were used and behaved a little differently than I was expecting.

The Witcher: Old World - School of the Bear

Another Witcher, another mushroom.  Yeah, maybe I went a little overboard on the 'ol mushrooms.  Once again, however, I do like the added splash of color the mushrooms add.

I really like how this guy's face turned out.  It has a lot of character.  Again, there are a lot of straps and layers upon layers of gear to deal with.  This reference photo is one I found after painting the miniature and I was working with a much darker, less detailed version of it.  Having this better reference photo would have been helpful in trying to sort out what is what on this mini.

Witcher: Old World - School of the Manticore

This Witcher from the school of Manticore was somewhat of a challenge for me to paint.  The very dark reference art got me a bit lost on browns on top of browns, on top of browns.  Straps, cords, and bits here and there added to the confusion.  That being said, I eventually got things mostly sorted out into something that looks decent enough to put on the table.

While I appreciate the extra color the mushrooms add, I'm not sure this particular miniature matches up with mushrooms after consulting the game art which looks a bit arid.  I guess the corpse bits are from some sort of temperate scorpion - or maybe it is a frightener in the game art?  In any case, I still like the look of mushrooms, they fit in the storage slot, and they don't cover up too much of the figure so that is what I went with.

Witcher: Old World - Yghern

The Yghern - aka Giant Centipede/Millipede since I'll likely never remember the name.

I really like how the tree came together with the mushrooms and big Alocasia Odora from Epic Basing.

Witcher: Old World - Striga

The Striga is another creature that I have trouble putting a name to without having to look it up every time.  I don't especially like the sculpt of this one for a couple reasons.

The biggest reason is that it looks like this should have been a two-part model rather than fusing together the stone under the beast's body.  It just looks strange to me.  Given the dynamic and multi-part sculpts some of the other models in this game have, it is clear they are capable of more on this one.

Secondly, the teeth and face in general look much more 'human' to me than the more ape-like representation of the game art.

To add to my initial negative opinion of the model itself, I painted this one when I was already a bit tired.  Eventually I just sort of gave up adding highlights and additional detail and called it done.

Overall I don't think it turned out 'bad', just less than inspiring and terrifying for a level 3 monster.
